In a large mixing bowl whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt and sugar.
Pour in the warm water and mix together with a wooden spoon. Mix until the dough forms a ball and pulls away from the sides of the bowl. Cover and allow to rest for 10 minutes.
Heat 2-3 cups of oil in a skillet over medium heat until it reaches 325º F or until a small piece of dough dropped into the oil begins to bubble and turns brown.
Take golf ball sized pieces of dough and stretch them out into a circle. Place the dough into the hot oil and fry on each side for 1-2 minutes, until golden brown.
Remove from the oil to a plate lined with paper towels
