This smash burger recipe is so easy to make in a cast iron skillet right on the stovetop. Ready in just a few minutes, so you can quickly feed the whole fam.
Divide the ground beef into 4, 1/4 pound rounds. Season each round with some sea salt and ground black pepper and a dash of Worcestershire sauce. Place on a plate and keep chilled until ready to use.
Heat a cast iron skillet over medium heat and toast the buns for 1-2 minutes until golden.
Add the butter to the pan and melt. Add in the sliced onions and season with 1 teaspoon of the sea salt. Cook and stir for about 10 minutes until soft and brown. Add the sugar and cook for one minute more.
Remove the onions from the pan.
Place one of the ground beef patties into the center of the pan, use the burger press to spread the ground beef out into a thin patty. Cook for one minute.
Flip the patty and top with cheese, cook for an additional minute, until crisp and the cheese is melted. Continue until all patties are cooked.
Place onto the toasted bun, top with caramelized onions and favorite toppings.
