Preheat oven to 350º F and grease a 12 inch cast iron skillet.
In a mixing bowl combine 1/2 cup butter, 1/2 cup sugar, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 2 eggs, and 1 teaspoon pure vanilla. Stir or mix with an electric mixer until well combined and smooth.
Sift in the 1 cup all purpose flour, 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder, 1 teaspoon baking powder, and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Continue to mix until everything is well combined and a sticky dough is formed.
Mix in the 1 cup semi sweet chocolate chips.
Spread out evenly into a greased 12 inch cast iron skillet sprinkle on additional 1/4 cup semi sweet chocolate chips
Bake for 15-20 minutes until edges are crisp and the top has a crisp layer, the middle should not be jiggly, but firm.
