Cinnamon Apple Twist Bread is a delicious loaf stuffed with twists of cinnamon and apples. This apple bread recipe is like a giant cinnamon roll, perfect for serving as a breakfast dish or side to any meal. This cinnamon bread actually comes together pretty quick and uses everyday ingredients.
In the bowl of a stand mixer or large mixing bowl, combine the flour, yeast and sugar.
In a separate bowl combine the water, milk and butter. Heat in the microwave until the liquid reaches 120ºF. Add to the flour mixture and mix.
Add in the egg and salt. Knead the dough in the stand mixer for about 10 minutes, until dough pulls clean from the sides of the bowl. This can also be done by hand on a floured surface.
Place the dough into a greased bowl, cover and place in a warm place or oven on proof until the dough doubles in size, about 30 minutes.
Heat oven to 350ºF. Roll the dough out on a floured surface to a 1/8 inch thick rectangle.
In a bowl combine the butter, sugar and cinnamon for the topping. Spread this on top of the rolled out dough. Sprinkle the dough with the diced apples.
Roll the dough lengthwise from one end to the other. Fold the rolled dough in half at the center. Using a sharp knife slice each side of the halves one inch deep. Twist the dough by picking one side up over the other tucking the ends in at the bottom.
Place the loaf into a greased loaf pan and bake for 15-20 minutes, until the bread is cooked through.
Allow the bread to cool at least 30 minutes on a cooling rack before slicing.
Notes
