How to make Taco Meat
This recipe for Taco Meat is the easiest and is ready in under 10 minutes! Perfect for a quick weeknight dinner, or make up a big batch for a taco party, everyone will be raving. It just takes a few simple steps to put this recipe together.
First, start with quality ground beef, I like to use 80/20 fat content or 93/7. These numbers indicate the fat percentage in the ground beef, 80% beef and 20% fat for example.
Place the 1 pound of ground beef into a large skillet over medium-high heat. Begin browning and add in the diced onion. Continue cooking and stirring for 3-4 minutes, until the beef is browned, cook through and the onion is softened.
Drain off any excess grease or water from the pan. This can easily be done by tipping the pan to one side and spooning the grease out into a separate bowl, or soak up with a paper towel.
Season the cooked beef with the Taco Seasoning and stir to coat. I like to add 2-3 tablespoons of water at this point and just mix it in with the seasoning. Let it cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until the ground beef is all coated in seasonings.
Can you Freeze Taco Meat?
This taco meat recipe can easily be frozen. Place into a freezer zip top bag or an air-tight container and freeze for up to 3 months. To reheat, place in the microwave and heat in 30 second increments, stirring in between until heated through. This can also be reheated in a pan over medium heat.
I like to make a big double batch of this recipe and then freeze half for dinner on another day.
How to Store Leftover Taco Meat
If you have leftover ground beef taco meat, it can be stored for up to 2 days in an air tight container in the refrigerator. Be sure to use in a salad, quesadilla or even soup before the days have passed. This can also be frozen for up to 3 months.
