Cream Cheese Frosting
This homemade frosting recipe is so easy to make and only takes 4 ingredients. If I had to choose between a good old buttercream or cream cheese frosting, I would choose cream cheese every time!
I love the slight tanginess of the cream cheese. This frosting also holds up really well and has a great texture for frosting cakes, cupcakes or cookies.
How to make Cream Cheese Frosting
Follow these simple steps to perfect cream cheese frosting:
- Start with softened butter and cream cheese. They should be at least room temperature and when touched will easily indent when pressed. This is important when making frosting because you want everything to blend smoothly when mixed, you don’t want chunks of butter or cream cheese in your frosting.
- Beat the butter and cream cheese together with an electric mixer for about 30 seconds, until they are combined and smooth.
- Once the butter and cream cheese are smooth, add in the vanilla and 3 cups of the powdered sugar.
- Blend the frosting together until everything is incorporated. Add in the remaining powdered sugar 1/4 cup at a time until the frosting reaches the consistency you like. I always use all 4 cups of the powdered sugar.
