How to make Bagels in the Air Fryer

Let’s walk through the simple steps to make these crunchy bagels right in the air fryer.

First, let’s talk about the ingredients that you will need.

Air Fryer Bagel Ingredients:

  • All purpose flour
  • Baking powder
  • Salt
  • Greek yogurt, plain- please note that not all Greek yogurt is the same, I like to use a 2% Greek yogurt, like Fage. Some Greek yogurts can be runnier making this a sticky dough. In that case, you will need to add more flour as needed to make the dough easier to work with.

Making Air Fryer Bagels

Start by combining together the flour, baking powder, salt, and Greek yogurt in a large mixing bowl. Stir with a wooden spoon until the dough begins to come together. Use clean hands to knead the dough into a ball.

Next, turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and slice into 8 equal pieces (for mini bagels). If you want bigger bagels, slice them into 4 pieces.

Roll each piece of dough out into a snake-like shape, long and not too thin. Bring the two edge pieces together and roll or pinch together to form the bagel shape.

Brush the bagels with a little bit of olive oil or melted butter and season with your favorite bagel seasoning. We like to use the Everything But The Bagel Seasoning from Trader Joe’s.

Place the bagels into the preheated air fryer basket that has been lined with parchment paper.

How long to cook bagels in an air fryer

My air fryer basket can fit 4 bagels, adjust yours a needed, if you can fit more, then definitely go for it!

Be sure not to overcrowd the bagels as they will rise and expand as they are baked.

Bake the bagels for 10-12 minutes, until cooked through and golden on the outside.

Carefully remove the hot, fresh bagels from the air fryer and allow to cool for a few minutes before slicing. I know you won’t be able to wait too long, these are so good fresh out of the air fryer!

Other add-ins for Bagels

These air fryer bagels are very customizable, load them up with your favorite fruit, cheese, or just leave them plain. A few of our favorite add-ins are:

  • Asiago, Parmesan, or even Cheddar Cheese
  • Jalapenos and cheese
  • Blueberries, strawberries or raspberries
  • Plain topped with any flavor of cream cheese
  • Sesame seeds

  1. Should I add more flour at a higher elevation? I followed the recipe and pretty much got a huge sticky mess

    1. You can definitely add more flour as needed to make a smooth dough. I am also at a high elevation, but I have also noticed that not all Greek Yogurts have the same consistency, some are really wet which require more flour to make the bagel dough.

    1. Thank you for your comment. I have found that not all Greek yogurt is the same. Some is thicker that others, especially when you look at the fat content. If you are using a Greek yogurt that is runny, you will definitely need to add more flour until it is easy to roll out and work with. Sorry you were not able to get yours to work out.
