Microwave Freezer Jam

The microwave just makes this process so quick and easy! It just takes 10-12 minutes and you are in strawberry jam bliss! If you do not want to use the microwave, this can definitely be done on the stove top. Simply, bring the strawberries to a boil and continue to boil for 10-15 minutes, until the jam has thickened.

Strawberry Freezer Jam without Pectin

This strawberry freezer jam will thicken up without the addition of pectin. Strawberries naturally contain pectin, so they will thicken up on their own.

To make this Microwave Strawberry Freezer Jam the first step is to wash and dry the berries. Hull and slice them into quarters. You will need 2 cups of sliced strawberries to make 1/2 cup of jam.

In a large microwave safe bowl, mix together the sugar and lemon juice. With a potato masher, mash the strawberries until no more large pieces are in the bowl.

Make sure you use a large enough bowl to allow the strawberries to bubble up while they cook.

Place the bowl in the microwave and cook for 10-12 minutes, stirring every 2-3 minutes. The jam is done cooking when it has cooked down and become thick.

Allow the jam to cool for about 10 minutes before storing.  If you are storing the jam in glass jars, heat the jars before you add the hot jam so it doesn’t shatter.

How long does Strawberry Freezer Jam last?

This freezer jam can be stored in the fridge for 2-3 weeks and for up to a year if kept frozen.

Can I use Frozen Strawberries for Freezer Jam?

Frozen strawberries would work great in this recipe if that is what you have on hand. Simply place them in the bowl with the sugar and lemon juice. Microwave for 2 minutes, then mash with a potato masher. Continue to cook for an addition 10-15 minutes until the jam thickens.
