Just a few pantry staple ingredients is all you need to make this easy peach crisp recipe:

Peach filling:

  • 5-6 yellow peaches, peeled and sliced. I prefer to buy peaches that are not too soft. They will break down and become soft as they bake. So, if you have peaches that are not quite ripe yet, they are perfect.

How to make Peach Crisp

Start by peeling and slicing the peaches. I like to slice my peaches in half and then into thinner slices. It honestly does not matter how you slice your peaches, so if you prefer to cut into chunks, go for it, this is your crisp!! Just be sure to keep them all about the same size and thickness so they will cook evenly.

Next, place the peaches in a large mixing bowl. Sprinkle with lemon juice and toss with the sugar. In a separate bowl combine the flour, cinnamon and nutmeg. Pour over the peaches and toss to coat. Place the peaches into an 8 x 8 inch baking dish while you prepare the oat topping.

To make the oat topping, combine the oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon and salt in a bowl. Stir together until well blended. Using a fork or 2 knives, mix the butter into the oat mixture until it has clumps and is like sand, if that makes sense. You want your topping to have some larger chunks as well as smaller ones to add texture to the top of your crisp!

Place the crumb topping all over the top of the peaches, you want to make sure it covers the peaches completely. Every bite with have a tasty piece of the oatmeal crust topping.

Bake the peach crisp in a 400º F oven for 30 minutes, until the peaches are hot and bubbly and the topping is brown and crispy.

Can I use canned or frozen peaches in peach crisp?

If you don’t have fresh peaches, you can use frozen or canned peaches. To use canned peaches, drain all of the juice from the peaches before combining with the ingredients of the peach mixture.

For frozen peaches, allow the peaches to thaw and drain any juices before mixing with the filling ingredients.

If you need to make this recipe ahead, I would just prepare the topping and the peaches separate and bake just before serving. If this is made too far ahead, the topping can become soft.
