Peach Jello Pie Recipe

I love it when a family heirloom recipe is shared with me and I get to test it out and share it with all of you. This recipe came to me through one of my mom’s friends and I was more than happy to give it a try. This peach jello pie recipe has been in her family for many years and they have been able to keep passing it down.

This Fresh Peach Pie recipe is one that this family has many memories of their grandmother making every September and they looked forward to it each year. Part of the memory that was shared with me was that the recipe was shared with many family members and friends and it was even published in the newspaper on a few different occasions.

How to make Peach Jello Pie

To make this simple Peach Jello Pie recipe start by preparing the pie crust. This recipe makes a large amount for the filling, so be sure to use a deep dish pie crust. I used a store bought crust, but you can absolutely make one from scratch as well.

First, you will need to bake the crust until it is golden brown. Then set it aside to cool completely before it gets filled with any of the peach pie filling.

Prepare the peaches by peeling and dicing into small pieces. For the pie glaze, combine the sugar, cornstarch, salt and water in small sauce pan over medium high heat.

Bring this to a boil and stir constantly for about 3 minutes, until the liquid begins to thicken. Add in the orange Jello/Gelatin and lemon juice and stir until the Jello is completely dissolved in the liquid.

Allow to cool before combining with the diced peaches.

Carefully pour the peach pie filling into the prepared pie crust. Place the pie into the refrigerator for at least 4 hours or overnight, until the pie filling is set and can be sliced easily.

Can I make Peach Jello Pie Ahead?

This Peach Pie is a perfect recipe to make ahead. I would not make this more than 2 days in advance. The best time to make this pie is the day before you are going to be serving it as it needs time to set before being sliced.

Ingredients

  • 1 9 inch deep dish pie crust
  • 6 fresh peaches, peeled and diced (about 2 1/2 cups)
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 4 tablespoons cornstarch, packed
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 3 ounces orange jello
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice

Instructions

  • Cook pie crust until golden brown and allow to cool.
  • In a sauce pan over medium high heat, combine the sugar, cornstarch, salt and water. Stir constantly until the sugar is dissolved and the liquid begins to thicken. About 3 minutes.
  • Remove from the heat and stir in the jello and lemon juice until the jello is dissolved.
  • Allow the glaze to cool for at least 10 minutes before mixing in the peaches. Stir in the peaches until they are all incorporated in the glaze.
  • Pour into the prepared pie crust and place in the refrigerator for at least four hours or overnight, until it is set.

Notes

  • You will know when the cornstarch is thick enough because it will plop from the spoon. Be sure that it is fully thickened before removing from the heat.
  • This pie is best made with fresh peaches.
  • To make this pie ahead, make the glaze and store in the refrigerator for up to a week before you are going to use it. Give the glaze a stir and add in the fresh peaches before pouring them into the prepared pie crust.
