The crust is easy to make and only takes a few ingredients, but it has the same flaky, buttery flavor as a homemade pie crust. The caramel pecan pie filling is so creamy and buttery. The best part is that this comes together with common pantry ingredients:

Here is what you will need:

Crust

  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar 
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Pecan Pie Filling

  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar 
  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 cup pecan halves

How to Make Pecan Pie in a Skillet

Let’s get to the best part of this whole process, well besides eating the pie, let’s walk through how to bake a pecan pie in a skillet.

  1. Make and Bake the Crust– to make the crust combine the flour, brown sugar, and salt. Mix to combine these dry ingredients. Cut the butter into the flour mixture with a pastry cutter, knives, or I like to use a cheese grater to get small pieces of butter. Mix until a sand-like mixture is made. Press into a greased skillet and bake for 10 minutes while you prepare the filling.

  1. Pecan Pie Filling– make the pecan pie filling by beating the eggs in a large mixing bowl. To the eggs add the brown sugar, sugar, corn syrup, vanilla, melted butter, and salt. Whisk together the pie filling ingredients until well combined. Add in the pecan pieces and mix well.

  1. Prepare for Baking– pour the pecan pie filling into the partially baked crust. Top with additional pecan halves if desired. The pie will bake for 45-50 minutes. The pie should not be giggly in the middle when it is done baking and the filling will be thick when a toothpick is inserted into the center.
  2. Chill– allow the pie to cool completely before slicing and serving.

How to Serve and Storage

Serve slices of this pecan pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.

Ingredients

Crust

  • 1 cup butter cold
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar packed
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Pecan Pie Filling

  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar packed
  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/4 cup butter melted
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 cup pecan halves plus more for topping chopped

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350º F and grease a 10.25 inch cast iron skillet
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, brown sugar and salt. Grate or cut in the cold butter and mix into the flour mixture until a sand-like mixture is formed.
  • Press the crust evenly into the prepared skillet. Bake for 10 minutes.
  • While the crust is baking, in a separate mixing bowl, whisk the eggs, then add in the sugar, brown sugar, corn syrup, melted butter, salt, and vanilla. Whisk until well combined.
  • Add in the broken pecan pieces.
  • Pour the pie filling into the crust. Top with additional pecan halves if desired and bake for 45-50 minutes.
  • The pie is done when the center is no longer giggly and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with thick caramel.
  • Remove from the oven and cool for at least an hour before slicing.
