Cast Iron Skillet Snickerdoodle Cookie

We love a good, gooey chocolate chip skillet cookie, but believe me when I say that Snickerdoodle as a giant skillet cookie is next level. Made with the basic cookie ingredients, but cooked in one pan instead of individual cookies like a traditional Snickerdoodle, this giant cookie is so soft and tastes just as good as the original.

When you need a simple treat for a Sunday afternoon or maybe you need to bring something sweet to the neighborhood party, give this giant skillet Snickerdoodle a try. It is always a hit and serves a lot of people. Top it with a little vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce while it is still warm for a simple cookie sundae!

Why Cook in Cast Iron Skillet

Cast iron skillets are for more than just making the perfect steak. I love using my cast iron to make simple desserts like this Snickerdoodle skillet cookie, a berry crisp, or even this monster cookie.

Cast iron is famous for its heat-retaining abilities, like its superpower, which helps cook foods evenly. It works so great in this recipe to create a delicious crunchy crust on the outside of the skillet cookie. It also has a lovely non-stick finish that makes cleaning up a breeze.

How to Make Snickerdoodle Cookie in a Skillet

Now that we’ve got all the ingredients, we are ready to make a sweet skillet cookie. Let’s walk through the simple steps to make this soft and perfect every time.

  1. Cream Butter and Sugars– just like any good cookie recipe, start by combining the softened butter, 3/4 cup of the sugar and brown sugar in a large mixing bowl. Mix with a stand or electric mixer until creamy and smooth, 1-2 minutes. Add in the eggs and vanilla and mix until well combined.
  2. Combine Dry Ingredients– in a separate mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, cram of tartar, 1 teaspoon of the cinnamon and salt. Use a whisk to mix together and remove any clumps.
  3. Mix Dry and Wet Ingredients– add the dry ingredients into the mixing bowl with the butter mixture and use the mixture to mix together until a soft dough forms.
  4. Prepare for Baking– combine the remaining cinnamon and sugar and sprinkle some onto the bottom of a well greased cast iron skillet. Press the prepared cookie dough into the pan and top with more cinnamon sugar.
  5. Bake– bake in a 350º F oven for 25-30 minutes, until golden brown around the edges.
