Easy Apple Crisp

Apple Crisp is one of our go to dessert recipes for any time of the year! This simple Apple Crisp Recipe comes together in just a few minutes. We like to through it in the oven while we eat dinner and it is warm, delicious and bubbly when we have cleaned up, just in time for an after dinner treat.

To make this recipe super quick, I like to use this apple slicer. It perfectly cores the apples and slices them into 12 equal pieces. The slices can then be tossed in a mixing bowl to mix with the sugar and spices before placing them in the pan to cook. Then all that’s left to do is mix the oat topping, sprinkle it over the top and toss the whole pan in the oven. The house house will smell like cinnamon, warm goodness. I hope you love it as much as we do!

Can I make Apple Crisp Ahead?

This Apple Crisp Recipe can be made ahead, however, I wouldn’t make it more than a day in advance of when you need it. To make ahead, prepare the apples as instructed and make the oat topping separately. Keep them separate in air tight containers until you are ready to bake. Just before baking, place the apples in the pan and top with the oat topping and bake as instructed.

Can You Freeze Apple Crisp?

Apple Crisp is a perfect dessert to freeze and save for later. To freeze, prepare the apples and crumb topping as instructed. Cover the pan with a layer of plastic wrap and then a layer of foil, freeze for up to 3 months.

If you want to freeze the apple crisp after baking, allow it to cool completely before covering with plastic wrap and foil.

To heat the apple crisp, bake from frozen with the pan loosely covered with foil for about 20 minutes, then remove the foil and bake until bubbly and the crust is golden brown.

The Best Apple For Making Apple Crisp

What are the best apples for making apple crisp? There are varying opinions one which is the best, but I honestly think there are a few choices that will make this perfect every time. You could even mix it up and add in a variety of apples and it will still be delicious.

For this recipe, I used Gala apples, but other varieties that cook great are Granny Smith Apples, Golden Delicious or even Honeycrisp. You can leave the peel on or off depending on personal preference.
