  1. Prepare the Bread– spread softened butter on both sides of the bread. Cut a circle out of the center of the bread with a round cookie cutter or even a drinking glass.

  1. Heat the Skillet– place the cast iron skillet over medium heat and allow it to heat up for about 30 seconds before adding butter to the bottom of the pan.
  2. Cook the Egg– place the bread and the cut out piece into the heated, buttered skillet. Crack an egg into the hole in the bread. If you prefer a hard yolk, break the yolk of the egg at this time.

Ingredients

  • 2 slices bread
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon butter softened

Instructions

  • Spread 1 tablespoon butter on to both sides of the 2 slices bread. Cut a round piece out of each of the bread slices and remove the circle from the center.
  • Place the 12 inch cast iron skillet over medium heat and allow to heat up for 30 seconds. Place butter or cooking spray into the skillet.
  • Put the bread and circle cut out in the skillet and crack an egg into the center of the bread. Break the yolk of the egg if you like a hard egg, leave it whole if you want a runny yolk.
  • Cook the egg for 2-3 minutes, until the bread is brown and crisp. Flip and continue to cook on the other side for an additional 2-3 minutes until cooked through.
  • Serve immediately.
