Giant Oreo Skillet Cookie
When I heard about the flavor mashup of the Post Malone Oreo Cookie, I couldn’t resist making them into this big, chocolatey skillet cookie recipe. These Oreos are unlike any I have tried before, they have both the traditional black and white cookie with a delicious swirl of salted caramel and shortbread flavored creme center. They were already destined for greatness, I just had to take them to another level!
Made with crushed up Post Malone Oreos, this cookie is a simple and delicious dessert you must try! If you are looking for another Oreo cookie recipe, check out my Cookies and Cream Skillet Cookie recipe for a buttery, soft cast iron dessert.
Recommended Equipment
- 12 inch cast iron skillet– this is the cast iron skillet I use daily in my kitchen. It is very affordable, great quality, and will last a long time.
- Mixing Bowls– it’s nice to have a few different sized mixing bowls around for combining and mixing all the ingredients.
- Measuring Cups– if you are in the market for new ones, these are great. I love these magnetic ones.
Why I Recommend Baking Cookies in a Cast Iron Skillet
Cast iron skillets are so easy to bake cookies (and so much more) in, I feel like there is a little fear of the unknown when using cast iron. But no need to fear, cast iron is easy to work with, and skillet desserts are just the best.
Cast iron makes the best cakes and giant skillet cookies while also giving that classic, rustic feel.
Cast iron is known for its even heat distribution, helping to make the perfect crunchy outer crust all over the outside of the cookie.
And let’s not forget, the beautiful non-stick surface that releases the cookie with ease and makes cleanup a breeze. My favorite part!
What You’ll Need for This Recipe
- Butter-salted butter was used in the original recipe
- Granulated Sugar
- Vanilla
- Egg
- All Purpose Flour
- Cornstarch-this makes the cookie, soft and chewy
- Baking Soda
- Baking Powder
- Sea Salt
- Black Cocoa Powder-this adds a rich, chocolate flavor and the deep black color without food coloring.
- Post Malone Oreos
- Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
- Soft Caramel Candies-I used Werther’s soft caramels, but Kraft caramels or caramel baking bits can be used as well
How to Make Post Malone Oreo Skillet Cookie
Make the Cookie Dough
- start by creaming together the softened butter, sugar, egg, and vanilla. This can be done by hand with a whisk, or with and electric or stand mixer. Mix for 1-2 minutes until all the sugar is incorporated and the mixture is fluffy/airy.
- add the dry ingredients to the mixing bowl with the butter mixture. Mix until a soft dough is formed. I find that this dough can be like crumbs, but comes together if you grab a handful and squeeze it.
- fold in the broken Post Malone Oreos, chocolate chips, and caramel pieces with a spatula until everything is well distributed throughout the cookie dough.
- press the black cookie dough into a well seasoned/greased 12 inch cast iron skillet. The dough might be a little crumbly, but will come together when pressed with clean hands.
- add additional chocolate chips, caramel pieces, and crushed Oreos to the top of the cookie before baking if desired.
Bake
- bake this skillet cookie dessert in a 350º F oven for 22-25 minutes, until cooked through. Allow the cookie to cool for at least 10 minutes before digging in.
Recipe Variations
- Can’t find Post Malone Oreos? No worries, you can leave them out entirely from this recipe and still have an amazing cookie, or try a different Oreo variety like salted caramel or even just the original flavor.
- Top the finished skillet cookie with some flaky sea salt for an extra punch of salt flavor in every bite.
- This cookie has a crunchy, almost dry, crumbly texture, but it reminds me of an Oreo cookie. If you want something that is more soft and fluffy, add an extra egg to the recipe.
- Black Cocoa Powder Substitute-if you can’t find black cocoa powder for this recipe, substitute a Dutch process dark cocoa, or just regular Hershey’s cocoa if that is what you have on hand. The color won’t be the same, but it will still taste great.
How to Serve This Skillet Cookie
If we are making this just for our family, you might just find us grabbing a spoon and eating straight out of the pan!! This cookie is best served warm with a scoop of Vanilla or Cookies and Cream ice cream, then top it with your favorite ice cream topping to make it into a cookie sundae.
How to Make A Pizookie without a Cast Iron Skillet
This skillet cookie recipe can be made without a skillet if you don’t own one. Make the cookie dough in a separate mixing bowl, then press it into a greased 9 x 13 inch baking dish and bake according to the recipe below.
Leftovers and Storage
If you do happen to have some leftover cast iron skillet cookie, take it out of the skillet and store in an air tight container or zip top bag on the counter for up to 3 days or in the refrigerator for 1 week.
This skillet cookie can also be frozen; freeze slices or the whole cookie out of the skillet in a freezer bag for up to 3 months.
