How to Make Beef Pot Pie

To make this simple Beef Pot Pie Recipe you will start by preheating your oven to 450ºF. Prepare the meat by seasoning with salt and pepper and slicing the Top Sirloin Steak into bite sized pieces. Chop the onion and celery.

In a 12 inch cast iron skillet, pour in the olive oil and brown the steak on both sides. Add in the onion and celery and continue to cook for another 2-3 minutes, until they have softened. Add in the garlic and rosemary, saute for an additional 30 seconds.

In a small bowl, whisk the water and flour until smooth. Pour into the pan with the steak. Add in the frozen veggies, Worcestershire and bring to a boil. Boil for about one minute, stirring constantly until sauce thickens.

Roll a store bought pie crust over the top of the Beef Pot Pie Filling, carefully stretch it to the edges of the pan and press the crust against the edges to seal in the filling. With a sharp knife make a few slits in the center of the pie crust.

Place the Beef Pot Pie in the oven for 15-18 minutes, until the filling is bubbly and the crust in golden brown.

That is it, such a simple recipe for busy nights and everyone will think you slaved all day in the kitchen!!

Ingredients Needed for Beef Pot Pie Recipe

  • Top Sirloin Steak, this is what I prefer to use in this recipe. Make sure you are buying a Top Sirloin Steak and not a roast. If you do not wish to use a steak, ground beef would also work well in this recipe.
  • yellow onion
  • celery
  • garlic
  • frozen vegetables, I just buy the peas and carrots
  • olive oil
  • salt and pepper
  • dried rosemary
  • water
  • flour
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • store bought pie crust

Do I have to use a Cast Iron Pan?

Absolutely not!!! You can make the filling for this pie in a skillet and then transfer to a 9 inch pie pan, cover with the pie crust and bake as directed. If using a pie pan, I suggest you place a baking sheet in the oven while it is preheating and then place your beef pot pie on the baking sheet to prevent big oven messes if your pot pie boils over a bit.

Otherwise, you can also use an oven safe skillet or pan if you have one that you prefer to use.
