How to Store Buttercream Frosting
Buttercream frosting can be stored on the counter in an air tight container (or on frosted cookies in a container) for up to 3 days.
If you need to store it longer, place in the refrigerator in a container for up to one week.
Lastly, it can be frozen. I like to place in freezer zip top bags and then it can be frozen for up to 2 months. Just thaw on the counter or in the refrigerator.

What size were the cookies? The cookies I made are large , how much icing do I need to make for 3 dozen.
My cookies were 2 inches and I frosted 3 dozen and had leftover frosting. It also depends on how thick or thin you frost the cookies as well.
