How to Make Calzones

Calzones start with a simple pizza dough recipe. We split the dough into 6 balls, so everyone in the fam can make their own calzone. If you would like to make two large calzones, just split the dough into 2 equal portions.

Roll the dough out into a large circle, then add all of your favorite pizza toppings to one side of the dough. You won’t be adding any sauce at this time to the inside of the calzone, just cheese and toppings.

Next, carefully stretch the dough over all of those toppings you have piled into your calzone.

Next, twist the edges of the calzone dough together moving from one end of the dough to the other to seal the calzone together. Brush the top of the calzone with olive and sprinkle on some garlic salt before baking.

How to Cook a Calzone at Home

You can cook a perfect right in your oven at home. Here are a few tips to help you make it perfect every time. Start by placing a pizza stone, or if you don’t have a pizza stone, a baking sheet into the oven. Turn the oven to 425º F and allow the pan to heat up with the oven.

After you have assembled your calzone place the calzone onto the pizza stone with a little bit of flour on the bottom of the calzone to help with sticking. Spread a little olive oil onto the baking sheet if using a baking sheet.

Bake the calzone for 15-20 minutes, until the outside is golden and crispy and the cheese is hot and melted on the inside. Serve with some pizza sauce for dipping and enjoy!
