Air Fryer Asparagus
Asparagus is our favorite Springtime vegetable side dish. Asparagus roasted in the air fryer, has such amazing flavor, doesn’t dry out and tastes like it was roasted in the oven.
I love using my air fryer to make quick side dishes when my oven is being used to roast some chicken or a steak for the main dish. Air fryers work just like a convection oven where the air circulates around inside cooking the food quicker and making it nice and crispy.
Ingredients for Asparagus in Air Fryer
This is a short list for the ingredients needed for this asparagus recipe. These are most likely simple items you already have in your home. To make air fryer asparagus you will need:
- asparagus– look for spears that are not too thick, those usually tend to taste a little woody. You want the spears to be moist and about 1/4 inch thick.
- olive oil– the oil helps crisp up the asparagus in the air fryer. Another oil can be substituted if desired.
- garlic powder– adds a ton of flavor
- salt and black pepper

How to Cook Asparagus in an Air Fryer
To start, you just need to do a little prep work to get the asparagus ready to cook. Trim the asparagus, before cooking you need to remove the woody ends of the asparagus. To easily do this, hold the asparagus on the top and the bottom and bend it, it will naturally break at the end.
Then, I like to line up the one spear that I have broken with the rest in the bunch and cut them to the same length. This will easily remove the woody stem from all of them quickly.
Next, you are going to drizzle the asparagus with the olive oil and season with garlic powder, salt and black pepper. This can easily be done right in the basket of the air fryer or in a separate mixing bowl.
Simply drizzle the oil over the asparagus, then shake on the spices and give the asparagus a toss to make sure it is all coated.
If your air fryer has the option, turn it on to preheat at 400 F. If you do not have a preheat, turn on your air fryer to 400 F and let it heat up while you prepare the asparagus.
Place the prepared asparagus spears into the basket of your air fryer, or add them and toss with olive oil and spices
It is best if they are in a single layer in the bottom of the basket to allow the air to flow around and crisp up all of the spears.
How Long to Cook Asparagus in an Air Fryer
The asparagus cooks so quick right in the air fryer. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, stopping it halfway through to give the basket a shake and rotate the asparagus around. This will help it crisp up on all sides.
The asparagus is done cooking when it is a darker green color and a fork easily slides into the flesh.
For a little extra flavor, drizzle the cooked asparagus with a little bit of lemon juice, or add some grated parmesan cheese just before serving.
