French Bread Pizza is one of those recipes that is so easy, even the big kids can help make this one, or even make it themselves. My daughter said we should open a restaurant and just serve these…they are that good!

Super simple to put together with whatever you already have on hand, you can definitely make substitutions or additions to this recipe to make it how you like it. I know everyone has their own opinions on the best pizza toppings and I totally get it!!

ingredients for french bread pizza. Loaf of french bread, shredded cheese, spaghetti sauce, pepperonis, sausage, spinach olives and oregano

French Bread Pizza Ingredients

  • 1 loaf french bread
  • spaghetti sauce- just use your favorite jarred brand
  • sweet Italian sausage- I personally prefer the flavor of the sweet Italian sausage but this is one where you can make a substitution. If you want to add a little spice go ahead a use a mild or hot sausage.
  • bell peppers- any variety
  • yellow onion
  • frozen spinach
  • sliced olives
  • pepperoni
  • mozzarella
  • Parmesan
  • dried oregano
  • red pepper flakes

How to make French Bread Pizza

Start by browning the sausage. When the sausage is no longer pink add the diced onion and sliced peppers to the pan and continue to cook and stir until the sausage is brown and slightly crisp and the onion and peppers are tender.

Add the frozen spinach to the pan and stir until it has just heated through. Remove the pan from the heat.

Prepare the french bread by slicing in half and hallowing out. Just use clean hands to pull the bread from the centers of the two halves being careful not to go too close to the inside and create holes through the bottom.

Once the centers are hallowed out you can discard the bread from the center, eat it or freeze it for breadcrumbs.

Place the bread halves on a baking sheet. Spread on a layer of the spaghetti sauce along the bottom and sides of the hallowed out bread halves.

Continue stuffing your french bread with a layer of the sausage and pepper mixture, topped with a layer of pepperoni and olives. And lastly pile with a layer of mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses.

Place in a 425º F and bake for 10-12 minutes, until the cheese has melted and the bread is brown and crispy. If you want the cheese more browned and bubbly on top, you can place under the broiler for 1-2 minutes, just keep an eye on it, you don’t want the bread to burn.

Remove the french bread pizzas from the baking sheet to a cutting board and slice into pieces. Enjoy while still hot!!

Can French Bread Pizza be frozen?

This french bread pizza recipe is best served fresh, however, if you are planning ahead, you can make these and then freeze them. To reheat place in a 350ºF oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, until heated through and the cheese is melted.
