Baked Potatoes

Baked Potatoes are so easy and inexpensive to make. We love making these for a simple weeknight meal or even to go along with our steaks on a Sunday afternoon. Sure, you can bake potatoes in the microwave in ten minutes, but you are missing out on the flavors from roasting in the oven, the crisp outer skin and the way the inside just melts in your mouth.

All it takes is a few easy steps and the potatoes are in the oven, you don’t need to keep an eye on them or anything, just get them in the oven and get back to making the rest of your meal.

How to Roast Potatoes in the Oven

To roast potatoes in the oven start by scrubbing medium sized Russet potatoes clean. Choose potatoes that are about the same size so they will all cook evenly.

Pat the potatoes dry with paper towels or a clean kitchen cloth. Rub the outside of the potatoes with a little bit of olive oil and place on a baking sheet. Sprinkle the potatoes with sea salt.

How long to bake a potato

Bake the potatoes in a 400ºF oven for 40-60 minutes, depending on the size of your potatoes.

The potatoes are done when a fork slides easily into the potatoes.

Oven Roasted Potatoes

Roasting potatoes in the oven adds so much flavor and the potatoes come out perfect every time! When you are roasting potatoes plan to add a few extra to the baking sheet to have leftover potatoes for other recipes such as a simple Breakfast Hash, Twice Baked Potatoes, Breakfast Burritos or even adding to the top of a Shepherd’s Pie.

Oven Roasted Potatoes are always perfect for a weeknight Baked Potato Bar. We love topping our potatoes with toppings like, broccoli and cheese, sour cream and chives, chili and cheese and so much more. It is easy to make a simple baked potato into a meal.

What kind of Potatoes are Best for Baking

Really you can oven roast any type of potato. If you are using the potatoes as a baked potato side I like to use Russet potatoes. Other potatoes that are also great and simple with this oven roasting method are Yukon Gold or even Red Potatoes. You might just need to adjust the cooking time if the potatoes are smaller in size.
