What you need for this recipe
This easy pumpkin bars recipe, like pumpkin bread, takes just a few ingredients and comes together in just a few minutes. This recipe starts with all the basic cookie/bar making ingredients; butter, sugars, eggs, flour, baking soda, vanilla and salt.
The addition of pumpkin puree, pumpkin pie spice and chocolate chips takes this pumpkin bar recipe to a whole new level.
How to make Browned Butter Pumpkin Bars
This easy pumpkin bar recipe has browned butter and chocolate chips, comes together in just a few minutes and makes enough for the whole fam. Let’s walk through a few tips and tricks to making this simple fall recipe.
Step 1: start this recipe by making the browned butter. To make browned butter, place the 3/4 cup of butter into a pan over medium-high heat. The butter will melt, continue to cook and stir the butter, as it cooks it will become bubbly and then foamy.
The butter will change to a darker color and little brown specks will appear on the bottom of the pan. Remove the pan from the heat at this point so the butter doesn’t burn, it can change quickly once it has browned. You will also notice a delicious nutty smell as the butter browns.
Step 2: in a large mixing bowl, use an electric mixer to combine the sugars, eggs, vanilla and pumpkin puree. Mix until well combined. Add in the butter after it has cooled to at least room temperature and mix again until it is combined.
Step 3: next, sift in the flour, salt and baking soda. To easily sift in dry ingredients, place a wire strainer over the bowl with the mixed wet ingredients, place the dry ingredients into the strainer and pat the side to allow the dry ingredients to fall into the bowl.
Use the electric mixer to combine the wet and dry ingredients until combined.
Fold in the chocolate chips with a spatula to disperse them evenly throughout the batter.
How Long to Cook Pumpkin Bar Recipe
Step 4: spread the pumpkin bar batter evenly into a 9 x 13 inch baking dish that has been greased with cooking spray or butter to prevent sticking.
Bake the pumpkin bars at 350º F for 35-40 minutes, depending on the oven, they can all run at different temperatures. The pumpkin bars are done when a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean of the pumpkin batter, it’s okay if it has chocolate on it.
How to Store Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Bars
These browned butter pumpkin bars can be stored on the countertop in an air tight container for 3-4 days.
You can also freeze pumpkin bars, in a zip top bag or other air tight container for up to 3 months.
