Lil Smokies in Barbeque Sauce

Lil smokies are delicious mini sausages that make a perfect finger food, we love these for game day treats or they always find their way onto our holiday appetizer tables. This simple, tangy recipe is made with simple ingredients and and only take a few minutes to prepare!

Ingredients for Lil Smokies Appetizer

The ingredients for this simple appetizer recipe are pantry staples that can be mixed together quickly to make this delicious recipe. To make this Lil Smokies recipe you will need:

  • 3, 14 ounce packages of Lil Smokies
  • 2 cups of your favorite bbq sauce
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 3 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes

How to make Mini Sausage Appetizer

It is so simple to make this sausage appetizer right in a cast iron skillet. First, right in the pan, combine together the barbecue sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar and spices. Just stir until well mixed.

Next, add in the lil’ smokies sausages right into the pan with the barbecue sauce mixture. Stir them to coat in the sauce, make sure they are all covered.

Then you are going to place the pan over medium heat and bring to a simmer. Cover with a lid to keep the liquid inside and the barbecue sauce from splattering all over the stove.

Cook the sausage for 30-40 minutes over medium low heat, stirring occasionally. Remove the lid of the pan for the last 5 minutes and allow the sauce to thicken a little just before serving.

Keep them warm over low heat until ready to serve.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups barbecue sauce
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 3 14 ounce Lil Smokies Sausages

Instructions

  • In a 10 inch cast iron pan or skillet, combine everything but the Lil Smokies. Stir until well combined
  • Add in the Lil Smokies and stir to coat.
  • Place the pan over medium heat, bring to a simmer
  • Cover the pan and turn down the heat to medium low. Cook for 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • The last 5 minutes, remove the lid to allow the sauce to thicken. Keep warm over low heat until ready to serve.
