How to buy Brussels Sprouts?

When buying Brussels Sprouts you will find that they are in many different sizes. For this recipe, I like to buy small-medium sized Brussels sprouts, so the bacon will wrap easily around them. If you do find larger ones, they can just be cut in half before being wrapped.

Look for Brussels sprouts that are green on all sides and not wilted. They will solid and not soft.

How to prepare Brussels Sprouts for Cooking?

You just need to do a few simple steps to prepare the Brussels sprouts for cooking. With a sharp knife slice the bottom stem off of the Brussels sprouts and remove any of the loose leaves or browned leaves from the outside.

If you find that you have extra large Brussels sprouts simply slice them in half so they will cook at the same time as any smaller Brussels sprouts.

How to Make Bacon Wrapped Brussels Sprouts

To make this simple Bacon Wrapped Brussels Sprouts recipe, start by preparing the Brussels sprouts as stated above; remove the stems and any brown leaves. Slice the bacon into thirds. Wrap each Brussels sprout in a slice of bacon and secure with a toothpick.

Place each bacon wrapped Brussels sprout onto a foil lined baking sheet (this will make it so much easier to clean up). Bake the Brussels sprouts in a 400ºF oven for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes remove the Brussels sprouts from the oven and either dip them or brush on the barbecue sauce. I found that it was easier to just dip the Brussels sprouts in the barbecue sauce and then use the brush to brush off any excess.

Place the Brussels sprouts back on the baking sheet and back in the oven for another 10-15 minutes, until the Brussels sprouts are softened and cooked through. The bacon will crisp up and the barbecue sauce will become deliciously caramelized.
