Ingredients for German Pancakes
You only need a handful of simple ingredients to make this classic oven-baked German Pancake:
- Eggs
- All-purpose flour
- Sugar
- Vanilla extract
- Salt
- Milk
- Butter
How to Make German Pancakes
These fluffy, golden German Pancakes are a cinch to make
- Heat the oven: preheat the oven heating up to 450ºF.
- Melt the butter: In a 9 X 13 inch baking dish place the 4 tbsp of butter and place in the oven while it heats up. This will melt the butter in the bottom of the baking dish. Remove the butter when it is melted and bubbly. Keep an eye on it because you don’t want your butter to burn.

- Blend the batter: While the butter is melting in the oven mix together the pancake ingredients. Place all of the ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. If you don’t own a blender this can be done in a large stand mixer, in a mixing bowl with a hand mixer or by hand with a whisk.

- Pour and bake: Carefully remove the hot baking dish from the oven and pour the batter right over the melted butter. Return the dish to the oven and bake for 15–20 minutes, or until the pancake is tall, puffy, and golden.
- Serve: Remove from the oven and enjoy warm with syrup and fruit
Quick tip: Make sure your oven rack is set in the center. German Pancakes rise several inches as they bake, and you don’t want the top hitting your oven.

⭐️Just a little tip…make sure your oven rack is in the lower center and not too close to the top, this pancake can rise a few inches above the pan and you don’t want it hitting the top of your oven.
Serving Ideas
- Dust with powdered sugar
- Drizzle with maple syrup
- Add fresh berries
- Top with whipped cream

Delicious, easy breakfast. The recipe was easy to follow, but it never says when to use the sugar. Was it granulated sugar in with the other ingredients or powdered sugar that you put on top after it’s baked??
I’m so happy you liked it! Sorry, I missed the sugar in the instructions, I have updated the recipe card so it is included!
Hello, ingredients in bowl, waiting to be baked tomorrow Shrove Tuesday/Pancake Day. Could you please include centigrade measurements for folk who live in “metric” countries?
Thanks so much for your comment! I will definitely look into that!

I’ve tried a bunch of other German pancake recipes, but the whole family agreed this one is the keeper! I think the high cook temp makes the edges so perfectly browned and crispy, plus this one puffs up so high! Bookmarking the page since we will be making these every weekend!
