This teriyaki sauce is made with basic ingredients that are pantry staples, like soy sauce, brown sugar, garlic and ginger. This teriyaki sauce will be on repeat, it is so easy to add flavor to so many dishes.

Teriyaki Sauce Ingredients
This simple sauce recipe is not complicated at all. Made with basic ingredients that you probably already have hanging around in your kitchen. If you don’t have these ingredients, be sure to pick them up from the grocery store, they can be used in so many delicious recipes, like this Chicken Stir Fry.
For homemade teriyaki sauce recipe you will need:
- soy sauce– low sodium or coconut aminos can be used as a substitute
- water
- brown sugar
- garlic cloves– fresh garlic is best, but garlic powder can be used, just add 1/2 teaspoon in place of fresh garlic
- ginger– like garlic, fresh ginger is best, but can be substituted with 1/2 teaspoon of ground ginger
- sesame oil– this needs to be in your pantry, a little bit goes a long way and is used in so many delicious dishes
- rice vinegar– again, a definite pantry item
- red pepper flakes
- cornstarch– used as the thickening agent to make the best sauce

How to make Homemade Teriyaki Sauce
Making this sauce does not require a culinary degree, it’s truly as simple as combining the ingredients and heating for a few minutes to thicken.
Simply combine all of the above ingredients in a small saucepan over medium-high heat and bring to a boil, cook for 3-5 minutes, until the sauce begins to thicken. Remove from the heat and add to your favorite dishes.

How to Store Teriyaki Sauce
Store leftover teriyaki sauce in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 7 days. If added to foods, consume the food within 2-3 days of cooking it in teriyaki sauce.

Homemade Teriyaki Sauce
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup water
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 2 garlic cloves minced
- 1 teaspoon fresh ginger grated
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon rice vinegar
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
Instructions
- Combine all of the ingredients in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat and continue to cook and stir for 5-7 minutes until thickened.
Notes
- To use as a marinade, omit the cornstarch and cooking. Simply combine all other ingredients and pour over meat to marinate.
- Store in an airtight container for up to 7 days in the refrigerator
