Ingredients

It’s quick and easy to make Valentine’s Day bark at home and takes just a few ingredients you probably already have on hand. Here’s what you will need:

  • Semi-sweet or Milk Chocolate: This recipe calls for semi-sweet chocolate chips, which melt up nice and smooth. You can also use milk chocolate or a combination of semi-sweet and milk chocolates. Use high-quality chocolate for the best results.
  • White Chocolate Chips: This is used to add decoration and color to the chocolate bark and easily melts in the microwave
  • Pretzels, Colored Candies, Heart Candies, and Sprinkles: decorate with your heart!

Quick Tip

High-quality chocolate will make the best results when making this chocolate bark….However, I have used just the store-brand chocolate and it has still turned out delicious, just not as smooth and creamy.

How to Make Chocolate Bark

This last-minute Valentine’s recipe is super easy to make in a pinch and still gives all the heartfelt homemade treat vibes! Let’s walk through the simple steps to get this recipe right every time!

  1. Melt The Chocolate: Place the chocolate pieces into a microwave-safe bowl and microwave on high for 30 seconds. Take it out and stir. If it still needs more time, continue to microwave in 10-second increments, stirring in between until it is smooth. Be careful not to overcook the chocolate, it will become chunky and hard to work with.
  2. Spread Out The Chocolate: Pour the melted chocolate out onto a parchment-lined baking sheet. It can be spread with a rubber spatula or an offset spatula until it is even.
  3. Add The Toppings: Add colored candies, sprinkles, pretzels, and any other decorations you have on hand. Allow to cool/harden completely.
  4. Make Pretzel Hearts: Start by melting the white chocolate in the microwave until smooth. Separate into different bowls to make different colors. Gel food coloring works great to make an even color. Pour the melted white chocolate into zip-top bags and cut off a small piece of the corner. Slowly add the chocolate into the center of the pretzels to make hearts.
  5. Break Into Smaller Pieces: After the chocolate has completely cooled and set, carefully break into smaller pieces.
