When I give this Caramel Apple Dipping Sauce away as a neighbor gift, I will pour the sauce into a glass jar with a lid and then place an apple on top of the jar. Either place the whole thing into a clear cellophane bag or tie the apple onto the jar with some pretty ribbon. People rave about this gift!

This Caramel Apple Dip is so delicious, you will want to eat it with a spoon, or you can even pour it over ice cream, brownies, pancakes or even oatmeal.

How to make Caramel Apple Dip

Follow the complete written instructions in the recipe below for best results, but I will give you a quick step by step here as well. To make this Caramel, start with a heavy pot over medium heat. Melt the butter in the pan and add in the brown sugar and corn syrup. Stir with a wooden spoon until the sugar is completely dissolved and everything is well combined.

Bring the sauce to a boil and continue to stir for another 2-3 minutes as the sauce starts to thicken and all of the ingredients come together. The butter should not be separating, but combining with the sugar and corn syrup.

How can I tell if the Caramel Sauce is done?

There are a few ways you can check to see if the caramel has reached a good thickness. First you can just eyeball it and see if the ingredients are combined and no more butter is resting on the top of the caramel. Another way that I like to test caramel is with ice water.

Place a few drops of the caramel into a bowl of ice water, spoon out the caramel and check the consistency by either tasting or touching. You want the caramel to be soft and still like a liquid, the caramel should not be hardening.

Lastly, you can check with an instant read or candy thermometer. The temperature you are looking for is 120-125º F.

The Instant Read Thermometer I like to use is a Thermopen One.

Once the caramel has reached the desired consistency, remove from the heat and pour in the vanilla. Stir until combined.

Allow the caramel to cool for 10-15 minutes before pouring into glass jars. If you are storing in a plastic container allow to cool almost completely as the caramel could melt the plastic if it is too hot.

Storing Caramel Apple Dipping Sauce

There are a few ways to store this Caramel Apple Dip.

  1. This apple dip can be stored right on the countertop at room temperature for up to 3 days. Storing on the countertop will help it stay at a nice temperature so anytime you want to take a dip it will be ready.
  2. Caramel Dip can be stored in a glass jar with a tight lid or air tight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks. The caramel will get a bit harder in the fridge, so either take it out and leave at room temperature until you are ready to eat or reheat for a few seconds in the microwave.
  3. This dip can also be frozen for up to 3 months in an air tight container. To reheat place in the microwave and reheat in 30 second intervals, stirring in between.
