How to Make Easy Scalloped Potatoes
This recipes comes together really quick and easy, the only hard part is waiting for it to cook, the whole house smells amazing!!
To make this recipe, start by slicing the potatoes and onions. I like to slice my potatoes using a sharp knife, it does make the slices imperfect which is fine with me. You can also use a mandolin or if you have an awesome electric slicer use that!!
Once you have all of the potatoes and onions ready to go, start making the cream base. In a medium sauce pan melt the butter, whisk in the milk and season with salt and pepper. You are ready to start layering!
Cheesy Scalloped Potatoes
In a greased 9 x 13 inch baking dish put down a layer of sliced potatoes, trying not to overlap too much. Randomly spread the minced onion on top of the potato layer, then add a layer of mozzarella cheese on top of the onions and potatoes. Lastly, cover with about 3/4 cup of the cream mixture.
Continue making layers until the pan is full just to the top. This will take about 3 layers. For the final layer, repeat as usual with the potatoes, onions cheese and sauce adding the last ingredient, Parmesan Cheese!!
Cover the pan with foil, place in a 350ºF oven and bake for 1 hour. After one hour, remove the foil and continue to cook for another 30 minutes, until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown!!
Can I use a Different Kind of Cheese
ABSOLUTELY!! This easy scalloped potato recipe is easy to modify. Go ahead and use whatever cheese you would like, Cheddar, Monterey Jack, Pepper Jack, Swiss….these and many others would be amazing!! Just use the same amount as the recipe calls for and you will have golden, delicious, cheesy scalloped potatoes!!

Mmm I love scalloped potatoes and this recipe looks like such a yummy side dish! Love that I can finish up cooking the main dish while this is cooking in the oven.
Totally! So easy to let these cook while working on the rest of the meal! Thanks for your comment!
Can I prepared and put in the freezer to use another time?
Of course. If you want to freeze these, bake as directed for the first 60 minutes, the potatoes won’t be cooked all the way through. At this point, let it cool, cover and place in the freezer for up to 3 months. Place back in the oven, covered in foil at 350 for 45-60 minutes, until cooked through. Remove the foil for the last 10-15 minutes to let the cheese brown.
Cheese? Butter? Onion? You know me so well.
How can you go wrong with those?? Thanks for your comment!

This recipe rocks, And I happen to be vegan sometimes vegetarian and just so people know you can’t replace the dairy milk with organic soy same with the Parmesan variety as well as the Parmesan shredded I went with a nut cheese variety that cashew-based.
Thanks so much for coming back and leaving a comment and for leaving your substitutions in case someone wants to make it like you did.
Turned out great. I’d suggest half the amount of salt- 3/4 or 1 tsp is sufficient.
So happy you like it! Thanks for coming back and leaving a comment!
These potatoes were so easy. I used Yukon gold potatoes and left the skin on cuz they’re thin but mostly I was lazy. The timing was perfect and the sauce thickened up beautifully. It’s Easter so these went well with the ham of course. Thank you for another yummy recipe.
Thanks so much for coming back and leaving a comment!! I love that you left the skin on, I bet no one even noticed!!
