I love a good meal that can be ready and on the table quickly. We love pasta dishes at our house, especially ones that start with butter and garlic. This recipe throws everything into one pan and it all cooks together to create a delicious and simple dinner.

It is so easy to make a dinner that your family will ask for on repeat when you make garlic parmesan pasta. We like to use the little shell pasta, but you can totally mix this up with any other small pasta that your family favors.

  • Large Skillet– This is the 12 inch enameled cast iron skillet that I use in my kitchen daily.
  • Wooden Spoons– for stirring and mixing while the pasta is cooking.

How to Make Garlic Parmesan Pasta

Gather up your ingredients and let’s walk through the simple steps to make this one-pan pasta meal.

  1. Preheat– Get your pan heated over medium heat. Add in the butter and garlic, cook, and stir until the butter is melted and the garlic is fragrant.
  2. Add Liquids– pour in the chicken broth and half and half (or heavy cream). Bring to a boil.
  3. Cook Pasta– add the pasta to the pan and turn the heat down so the liquids are just boiling. Cook and stir the pasta for 7-10 minutes, until the pasta is just cooked and the liquid is mostly absorbed into the shells.

  1. Finish– add in the parmesan cheese, basil, and ground black pepper. Serve and Enjoy!

Leftovers and Storage

If you have leftovers, store them in an air-tight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the microwave in 30-second increments, stirring in between until heated through.

Ingredients

  • 16 ounces shell shaped pasta small
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 3-4 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 1/4 cup half and half
  • 3/4 cup parmesan cheese grated
  • 1 tablespoon fresh basil
  • salt to taste
  • ground black pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Preheat a 12 inch skillet over medium heat. Add in the butter and garlic, cook and stir until the butter is melted and the garlic is fragrant, about 30 seconds.
  • Add in the chicken broth and the half and half. Turn the heat to medium high and bring the liquid to a boil. Add salt.
  • Pour in the pasta and cook for 7-10 minutes (or according to package instructions) until tender. Be sure to stir occasionally to make sure pasta doesn't stick to the bottom of the pan.
  • Turn off the heat and stir in the parmesan cheese and fresh basil. Finish with ground black pepper to taste.
