How to Make Stromboli

This recipe for stromboli comes together pretty quick, even if you are making your own pizza dough. Let’s walk through the simple steps with some tips and tricks.

Step 1: start by making the simple pizza dough. Mix together the yeast, flour, salt, sugar and olive oil. Pour water in, stir until a soft dough is formed. Knead the dough for 1 minute and then cover with a clean towel and let rise for 10 minutes.

This step is made quicker by using Instant Yeast, this takes out the need for proofing the yeast and a second rise before baking.

Step 2: Roll out the homemade or store bought pizza dough into an 11 x 14 inch rectangle on a floured surface.

Step 3: next combine the butter, garlic and Italian seasoning. The butter will spread easiest at room temperature or melted. Just brush on with a pastry brush or even with a knife.

Step 4: now that the dough is prepared and rolled out, start adding the layers of meats and cheeses. Place down a layer of sliced ham, leaving about 1/2 inch on the side edges and an inch on the shorter side. Next, add a layer of shredded parmesan and mozzarella cheese.

Continue with a layer of salami, then cheeses, pepperoni and lastly, more cheese. Reserve some of the cheese for sprinkling on top of the stromboli.

Step 5: roll the stromboli up from one long side to the other. Press the meats and cheeses back into the dough as you roll, so they don’t slide out the other side.

When you get to the other end, press the edge of the stromboli into the dough that you just rolled up to create a seal in the dough. Then fold over the end pieces of the dough to seal those as well.

Step 6: brush the remaining garlic butter over the top and sides of the stromboli and sprinkle the remaining cheese on top, press to stick into the butter as needed.

With a sharp knife, cut 4-5 slices into the dough being careful not to cut into the meat.

Lastly, bake the stromboli at 350º F oven for 25-30 minutes. Cook until golden brown on top and the cheese is melted and bubbly on the inside.

If the stromboli is getting too browned on the outside, cover with a sheet of foil to continue heating through if needed.

Remove from the oven and let it sit for 4-5 minutes before slicing. Dip into your favorite pizza sauce to serve and Enjoy!!
